Hello! I’m Ret. I’m an Indonesian illustrator currently based in the UK. I study illustration at Sheffield Hallam University and do freelance work alongside my studies. I started taking drawing more seriously out of spite after my parents said toddler me wasn’t allowed to draw on walls anymore, so I switched to paper. I enjoy doing character-focused art, short comics, and being experimental with my art style.
My Interests
I enjoy being playful while also being meaningful with my work; I pull ideas from my own culture and personal experiences, as I want to create a safe space of some kind that makes people who’ve gone through something similar feel seen. On a less sad note, I like drawing my original characters interacting and having fun; I strive to capture the joyful moments in life, as I know it can be difficult to remember them.
My Experience
I've been doing creative stuff for nearly my entire life. From scribbling on walls and making patterns on windows using glue to actually posting my art online, I've been able to learn a lot throughout my years as an illustrator. During my time in university, I've been given the chance to learn a plethora of new skills and software. For example, I've learnt to use Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Premiere Pro for both my university projects and competitions. I've also developed adequate time management, leadership, and social skills, which have helped during collaborative projects.
